Used Cooking Oil Collection

Transform Your Used Cooking Oil Into Something Better

Making Waste a Resource

There’s no need to let a valuable resource go to waste. We recycle fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from thousands of organizations across Metro Vancouver. Whether you’re a passionate household culinary artist, own a local restaurant (or food truck), manage a national chain, or operate a food processing facility, EcoZero can help breathe new life into your used cooking oil.

Recycling your used cooking oil is an easy way to fight climate change and make a positive impact on the environment. It allows you to dispose of your waste responsibly while providing us with a renewable resource for eco-friendly biodiesel. Our reliable and sustainable service is a solution to the landfill problem by reducing the stream to landfills, recovering it from organizations, and recycling it into green fuel.

Why EcoZero

At EcoZero, we’re more than just used cooking oil collectors – we’re zero waste champions dedicated to building a brighter, cleaner, and safer future fueled by renewable energy.

The cooking oil that we collect gets a second life as biodiesel, a cleaner alternative to traditional petroleum diesel that offers fewer emissions and a significantly lower carbon footprint that helps address climate change and reduce environmental impacts.

Biodiesel made from your oil is:

  • Locally sourced to ensure the region’s economy is supported
  • Sustainable because it’s made entirely from renewable resources
  • Biodegradable in water and soil
  • Clean burning, low carbon, and good for the environment

Finding a quality service partner who understands your specific operation can be a challenge. EcoZero offers one point of contact for all your grease needs, with a crew dedicated to moving you efficiently through new business setup, service requests, equipment upgrades, or whatever your need may be. We pledge service commitment and expertise dedicated to what you need to keep your business running like a well-oiled machine.

Best Practises

Although used cooking oil is not hazardous, spills and leaks can be harmful to the environment if they enter the stormwater system. Follow these simple tips to prevent spills, minimize odors, and keep your collection area clean:

  • Never put any other waste material in your bin. EcoZero containers are for used cooking oil only. No garbage, food waste, or other liquids, please.
  • Periodically scrape the grate at the top of your container. Food particles can cause clogging or make your container appear full. Please dispose of food particles in the compost or food waste bin.
  • Be careful when pouring oil into the container. If you experience a spill, you can clean it up using absorbent pads, or by sprinkling it with sand or kitty litter before sweeping it into the garbage.
  • Only use locks provided by EcoZero. Locking your container is a great way to prevent theft and keep garbage and other materials out of your container. Please make sure to use the lock we give you. Using a different lock could prevent us from collecting your oil.

Home Cooking Oil Recycling

Home cooks can also recycle their used cooking oil with EcoZero. Across Metro Vancouver, we’ve set up convenient public drop-off locations, making it easy to dispose of your old cooking oil. You can reuse oil only once or twice. Each time you reuse oil it, deteriorates, and the smoke point (the temperature at which it will burn) decreases.

The Do’s & Don’ts of Home Cooking Oil Recycling

Allow the oil to cool down completely
Don't pour oil down the drain or in the toilet. It can clog not only your pipes but also the city sewer mains. Water contaminated with oil is difficult, sometimes impossible, to treat. This means it can eventually pollute local waterways.
Strain the oil using cheesecloth, paper towels, or coffee filters to remove any food particles and crumbs
Don't pour oil into a septic system. It can clog pipes and, worse, your distribution lines and drainage field.
Pour the oil back into its original container or an easy-to-pour and sealable container
Don't dispose of oil in compost bins or piles. Animal fats should be kept out of your compost pile because they will smell, attract vermin and cause other issues that could make your compost unhealthy.
Bring your oil to one of our many public drop-off locations
Don't pour hot oil into the trash.
Open the lid of the location’s designated oil container, and carefully pour in the oil
Don’t leave used cooking oil outside. Additionally, animal and vegetable-based oils and greases can cause issues for wildlife when left outside.
Close the lid
Please keep in mind that the container is for cooking oil only. No solids, garbage, or other materials should be placed in the container
